If your flowers were delivered during cold weather, leave the wrapping on for 15–20 minutes before arranging them. This helps the blooms gradually adjust to room temperature and reduces stress caused by sudden temperature changes.

A clean vase is one of the most important factors in extending flower life. Wash your vase thoroughly with warm water and dish soap before use. Bacteria build-up in dirty water can block stems from absorbing water and shorten the life of your arrangement.

Fill your vase with cool or room-temperature water and add the flower food packet included with your order whenever available. Flower food helps nourish blooms while reducing bacterial growth.

If flower food is used, simply top off the water as needed. Without flower food, we recommend replacing the water daily for maximum freshness.

Before placing your flowers in water, remove any leaves that would sit below the water line, as submerged foliage can encourage bacterial growth and shorten the life of the arrangement. Using a sharp knife or floral pruners, trim approximately 1 inch from the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. Once trimmed, place the stems into fresh water immediately to help maximize water absorption. Fresh cuts allow flowers to drink more efficiently and can significantly extend their vase life.

To keep your flowers looking their best, place the arrangement in a cool area away from direct sunlight, heating vents, radiators, air conditioning vents, and drafty windows or doorways. Extreme temperatures and direct heat can cause flowers to age more quickly. Flowers should also be kept away from ripening fruit, particularly apples and bananas, as these release ethylene gas, which can accelerate the natural aging process of fresh blooms.

Regular maintenance will help your flowers remain fresh and beautiful for as long as possible. Remove any fading blooms or damaged foliage as they appear, and check the water level daily to ensure stems remain properly hydrated. Replace the water every 2–3 days with fresh, clean water, and lightly re-trim the stems each time you change the water to encourage continued absorption and extend the life of the arrangement.
